First Look: Threads, an Instagram app

Welcome to the New Threads App
Hi everyone, AB here. Today, we're going to take a first look at the brand new Threads app. Threads is a social networking app made by Meta, also the maker of Instagram and Facebook. With Threads, you can view a feed of everything that's going on with your friends or people you may be interested in. You can also post your own messages, including text, photos, and videos. Let's check this out!
Getting Threads
To get Threads, head to threads.net on your phone and click on the button at the bottom. This will bring you to the app store or the play store where you can install Threads. You can also get there through the Instagram app. In the top right-hand corner, click on the hamburger menu, then click on Threads. This will also bring you to the app store. One caveat to call out is that to be able to use Threads, you need an Instagram account. Once you finish installing the Threads app and running through the first run experience, congratulations, you are now in Threads!Exploring Threads
The app drops you in the main home view, which is your feed showing all the different content from the people you follow and people you may be interested in. This feed consists of text, photos, and videos. You can like, reply, and share messages in this feed. When you click into a message, you can see the original message and all the replies to it.

Searching and Following
Threads also allows you to search for new accounts to follow. You can type in an account name if you already have someone in mind or browse various accounts to see if any of them might be interesting. Once you find an account you want to follow, you can click on "Follow" and explore their profile.Posting Your Own Thread
If you want to write a post, you can click on the compose icon at the bottom navigation bar. This will drop you into a view where you can compose your own thread. You can write up to 500 characters of text or include up to five minutes of video. You can also add photos or videos to your thread. After composing your thread, you can define who can reply to it and then post it.

Managing Your Profile
You can view and manage your profile by clicking on the profile icon in the bottom navigation bar. From your profile, you can see your threads, replies, and edit your bio and link. You can also turn your profile private. Some account settings can be changed in the associated Instagram account.Activity and Notifications
To keep track of all the activity on Threads, you can click on the heart icon in the bottom navigation bar. This opens up the activity view where you can see a summary of all the activity. You can filter the view to see replies, mentions, or when verified users have reached out to you. You can also customize your notification settings.

That was a first look at the new Threads app. Let me know what you think in the comments below. Do you see yourself using this app moving forward? Personally, it seems like a really solid app.

This blog post will discuss the current functionality of a certain application. While it is missing some important features, such as nested replies and direct messaging, it is expected that these features will be added in the future.
